Mint Hotel Tower of London unveils dramatic moving art portraits
Film maker Polly Steele exhibits at leading contemporary hotel
17 May 2011 (London) – Mint Hotel Tower of London, today unveils BEING, a collection of beautiful, intimate, moving portraits shot in stunning HD by renowned film maker Polly Steele.
BEING sees a varied cast of characters reflecting on what it is to BE and shows how thoughts and intentions are reflected in our physical appearance. The inspiring portraits highlight how moments of stillness in silence are more powerful than words.
Amongst several personalities, some of which are well-known, the portraits include: Tony Benn, BEING in silence, novelist Diane Samuels not Being anymore, and American actor Michael K Williams ‘BEING accepted’, depicting his need for acceptance into society after being physically scarred.
“BEING is my antidote to the soundbite world. We have become so risk averse, so intent on controlling our output, regulating what people say on television, what they feel and knowing in advance what the outcome will be. We have forgotten how to observe each other, how to BE. People no longer feel that they can be who they really are but that they have to conform to a stereotype. The portraits provide them with a rare moment to just BE themselves.” said Polly Steele.
Displayed in Mint Hotel Tower of London’s stylish destination Lounge Bar Fenchurch Lounge, “BEING provides a stunningly unique backdrop, perfect for our bar” says David Orr, Mint Hotel co-founder and chief executive. He adds “Mint Hotel has an encouraging and innovative approach to supporting the arts and we are delighted to collaborate with Polly in showcasing her thought -provoking work’.
